Same Day Dentistry: CEREC Crowns

Proud Same Day Crown Provider in Nebraska

One of the major questions people ask is whether there is any a dental difference between traditional and same-day crown procedures. The answer is yes. If you’re wondering what the benefits are to same day crowns, keep reading!
Same Day Crowns

Why Patients are Choosing Same-Day Dentistry
Dental crowns can give you a smile that hides a lot of dental issues, including gaps, cracks, discoloration and crooked teeth. In the past, the procedure was complicated and would require two appointments and several weeks to get your new smile. However, thanks to technological advances, you can now get same-day crowns, which means your tooth replacement is completed in just one visit. CEREC crowns are more efficient and technologically advanced that allows our Lincoln dentists to use an in-office machine to create quality crowns on the day of the dental appointment. Similar to traditional crowns which are fabricated at a laboratory off-site, same day crowns are protective caps used to restore a cracked tooth, to cover a dental implant or to restore a tooth after a root canal.
Crowns In Lincoln

1. Time and Convenience
Life is busy enough; getting a tooth restoration shouldn’t be stressful or time-consuming. Patients have found same day crowns convince with restoring their smile in just one visit. Instead of using messy impression material that is uncomfortable, we take digital impressions of your tooth and send it to our CEREC machine in office. This allows our team at Star City Dental to create a new 3D dental crown for you in just ONE visit. You will no longer have the discomfort of temporary crowns or multiple visits.

2. Material
Our same-day crowns only consist of ceramic, which are high quality, long-lasting, and restore the function of your tooth. However, traditional crowns can consist of several materials, including ceramic, porcelain, metal and porcelain-fused-to-metal. Dental crowns that contain metal are very durable, as metal fuses very well to dentin.

3. Strength and Protection
While professionals in a lab construct the traditional crowns, the end-product is a lot stronger than same-day crowns. Furthermore, materials such as leucite-reinforced ceramic or porcelain-fused-to-metal can only be used to fabricate traditional crowns, making them stronger and more durable. Unfortunately, these materials are not as aesthetically pleasing as ceramic. Therefore, they are not ideal for a dental crown on your front teeth. Dental crowns sit on your tooth and form a tight seal to keep bacteria out, protecting the tooth from further decay. Advanced Technology

4. Temporary Crowns
When a patient chooses traditional crowns, the dentist will give them temporary crowns while they wait for the lab to fabricate their permanent dental caps. These temporary crowns have a lot of disadvantages. They are quite uncomfortable, especially if they shift a little in your mouth. Most of them do not fit properly, and they can actually increase the likelihood of tooth decay, because food debris may get under the crown. In addition, during the wait between your dental visits, you’ll also keep experiencing pain from the broken or cracked tooth. Same-day crowns on the other hand, has eliminated the need for temporary crowns as you can get permanent crowns in a single appointment.

5. Attention to Detail

Same-day crowns are aesthetically pleasing and custom-crafted to match your natural smile and tooth color. However, if you want a front tooth that perfectly matches the next tooth, a traditional crown made from ceramic or porcelain may be ideal. This is because the traditional crown is fabricated by hand by an expert in a lab who applies more nuanced details to get a better match.
